What is hydrotherapy? Hydrotherapy , also known as water therapy, is the use of a pool to conduct rehabilitation sessions. Hydrotherapy pools are usually kept at warmer temperatures and have positive effects on healing including reduced pain levels and increased mobility. Hydrotherapy is also beneficial for individuals with injuries in which they would like to strengthen their musculature but are not at the point in their rehabilitation in which they are ready to overload the muscles. Hydrotherapy can be used in the initial stages of rehabilitation to engage clients in a structured exercise program before progressing to land based exercises. Research indicates that hydrotherapy has benefits for conditions such as but not limited to arthritis, chronic pain. Musculoskeletal injuries and obesity (this is not an extensive list but just examples).

Hydrotherapy programs are conducted by qualified health professionals including Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists. At The Rehabilitation Specialists, our allied health professionals offer both one on one individualised sessions and group hydrotherapy sessions.
