What makes you the ideal candidate for this position?

What makes you the ideal candidate for this position?

Why do you want to work here? What are your strengths? Do these sorts of questions sound similar?

Anyone who has been to an interview has probably heard at least one of these questions. Interviewing, either for paid employment or work trials can often be an intimidating experience, often at the best of times. At The Rehabilitation Specialists we regularly work with individuals who for various reasons cannot return to their pre-injury role. Therefore, as part of our services we place a premium on not only working with individuals to ascertain their skills, experience and interests in forming the ideal vocational pathway but also on equipping them with the skills and confidence to effectively job seek and perform at interviews. We take a practical and personalised approach to job seeking services and work with the individual to identify their needs.

Our services include resume and cover development, job search skills, assisting individuals to effectively address selection criteria, interview preparation and injury disclosure, to name a few. Recently, The Rehabilitation Specialists worked with a Canberra based individual who was employed in the medical field but due to a psychological injury, was unable to return to their pre-injury role. We worked closely with the individual, their treating medical practitioners and employer and developed a job seeking package to assist the individual to identify, apply for and win a paid role within the medical field. As part of our approach we provided a range of job seeker services including identifying suitable roles and interview skills training  and also facilitated a work trial where the individual was able to trial the type of work she would be applying for, learn new skills and build their confidence.

Thanks to the individual’s commitment to job seeking and in part to our services and the emphasis we placed on interview preparation, the individual was able to effectively research and prepare for the position she was applying for and shine at the interview. The individual informed us that the mock interview we facilitated prior to her interview, our interview tipsheets and strategies on how to better manage anxiety during the interview all helped them maximise their performance.
